Miles Platts was established in 1971 by Brian Platts and Terry Miles. The growing demand for transformer bobbins from local companies inspired a range of Miles Platts’ standard products. The business soon expanded and developed a wide customer base located all over the world.

Popularity for products grew exponentially during the ‘80s leading to the establishment of Miles Platts Inc, based just outside of Chicago.

Miles Platts became the UK’s only bobbin manufacturer with a UL-recognised moulding facility, a certification we still hold to this day.

Ahead of changing legislation Miles Platts announce that all lead plating will be removed from any product manufactured with pins or terminals to comply with international standards.

Due to continued success and business growth, the factory was relocated to new, more modern premises that allowed us to move all staff and production into one building.

Miles Platts celebrates success alongside DuPont at the Plastics Industry Awards, by winning the Supplier Partnership award.

Another busy year for Miles Platts, a 5-year investment plan was created as well as launching our E70 and E80 at CWIEME Berlin and Chicago to great success.

We became one of the first companies within the UK to be accredited to ISO EN 9001:2015 by the Lloyd’s Register Quality Assurance.

2017 saw the completion of the modernization of our in-house, temperature-controlled metrology lab and quality offices. Cooling and compression equipment was upgraded and these improvements helped us to achieve a 40% reduction in our CO2 emissions.

Across the globe 2020 was a challenging year, Miles Platts is extremely fortunate and proud that we were able to manufacture critical components that played a part in the global virus fight. We did not miss a single day of production due to the pandemic.

2021 marked our 50th anniversary. Throughout the last 50 years, Miles Platts has been an innovator within the industry and will continue to do so. Continuing to add products to our standard ranges, and work with businesses to develop the custom products they need across a huge variety of industries including motor bobbins for EV’s and EV charging modules.

Following on from the pandemic, 2022 saw Miles Platts returning to international exhibitions including the first edition of Coiltech Deutschland and a few months later Coiltech Italia which was a huge success and saw a return to in-person events following the pandemic and its restrictions.
