David joined Miles Platts in 1975; a time served Toolmaker, Production Engineer and Quality Manager. He was promoted to the position of Sales Director in 1989 when the company opened its wholly owned subsidiary in North America, and he was personally responsible for managing all key accounts and agencies with a total sales turnover of £10m. He was promoted to Managing Director in 2000 and has successfully managed the company through turbulent times caused by significant manufacturing migration, economic recessions and into its current healthy position.
David is a vastly experienced individual; his key responsibilities include maintaining a company-wide commitment to service excellence and ensuring continued development of precision engineering capabilities through product innovation to support global industry developments. He chairs the Miles Platts senior management team who drive the long term planning and strategic development of the company. He plays an active role in managing the senior relationships with a portfolio of key clients and new prime accounts both nationally and internationally, to ensure a healthy and profitable business for the benefit of the company, its shareholders and employees.
Like his father Brian Platts, the Founder of Miles Platts, David has been an integral member of the Council of the ICWA (International Coil Winding Association) for over 20 years and has held all senior positions including Chairman and Vice-Chairman.
Technical Sales Manager
Brian has over 30 years’ of electro- mechanical sales engineering experience, he joined Miles Platts in 2002 as Technical Sales Manager, responsible for co-ordinating all commercial and technical activity with customers. With a focus on building long-term business partnerships with customers he is conversant with technical plastic design and is able to offer practical advice with regards plastic component design for manufacturing and holds particular knowledge in coil bobbin design with over 20 years of coil winding experience in his career.
Brian qualified in electronics and telecommunications engineering in 1986 and prior to Miles Platts, he worked as a sales engineer of signal transformers for use within telecommunications equipment.
Brian has extensive export sales knowledge within Europe, South East Asia and North America. Miles Platts products are sold both directly and through a world-wide network of distributors throughout these regions.
Brian is an integral part of the company’s senior management team and an active member of the International Coil Winding Association in Europe and the Transformer Association of North America.
Mark joined Miles Platts in 2013; with over 20 years of experience within the manufacturing and engineering industry he is responsible for operations within the business and is a member of the senior management team. He manages several teams that strive for zero defects and 100% on time delivery on all products and services.
Prior to Miles Platts, Mark sat on the Board of Ridgeway Machines who design and manufacture large scale coil and transformer winding machines for the power generation industry and pipeline production lines the oil and gas industry.
Mark’s background originates in electronics however his focus now is on production optimization and change management. His remit includes forecasting and delivery performance; managing day-to-day activities to achieve targets and the development and implementation of the long-term operations strategy to create sustainable safety, quality, delivery and cost improvements which benefit stakeholders and customers . He is the key player in driving the Operational Excellence and Strategic Planning process to define improvement priorities which have the greatest impact to customers within the broader business strategy.
Adrian has 40 years of experience in a technical role within the plastics industry of which he has spent 25 years at Miles Platts. His experience and knowledge of plastic component and mould tool design along with the injection moulding process extend his capabilities through the design and development of products in accordance to a product brief and within the timescale agreed in the development programme. Adrian has been operating CAD since 1987 in its 2D version, and 3D using Pro- Engineer (currently known as Creo) since 1996.
Adrian’s theoretical and practical approaches in determining the feasibility of engineering designs and consideration of factors such as system effectiveness, reliability, configuration, and cost ensure that Miles Platts products exceed the expectations of our customers.
Jon started his career with Miles Platts in 1987, supporting the warehouse’s supply chain process; a varied role which included elements of stock control, order picking and despatch. He is now responsible for supporting the sales team within the business and focuses on ensuring that customer requirements and expectations have been accurately identified and met.
Jon’s key responsibilities include: identifying specific products and suitable materials to meet customer requirements, presenting regulatory documents for REACH (SVHC), RoHS, Conflict minerals and UL upon request, providing costings for standard parts in non-standard moulding material as well as custom products and assisting with new tooling projects.
With over 28 years of experience within the plastic injection moulding industry, Jon is a valued member of the sales team.
Internal Sales & Logistics
Andy joined the business in 2008 as part of the sales team. He is responsible for order processing, arranging quotations, maintaining relationships with customers, and more recently, organising all domestic and international shipments.
Since graduating from university and obtaining his degree in French, Andy’s background has been primarily in sales and customer service, using his second language as a tool to assist customers across the Channel. Prior to Miles Platts he worked in a sales and logistics environment within a manufacturing business. In 2012 he achieved a certificate in Export Documentation from the Chamber of Commerce.
Sam joined Miles Platts in 2012 and was promoted to Tool Room Supervisor in 2013. He has over 15 years of experience in injection mould tool manufacture. Prior to Miles Platts, he spent 4 years in the Royal Air Force working on maintenance of weapon systems and tornados.
Sam’s remit includes managing tooling projects, overseeing the planning and manufacturing of all insert and full mould tools and regular preventative maintenance on all in-house and customer moulding tools and machinery. He operates VISI CAD CAM and Edgecam software alongside a number of mould tool manufacturing machines; some of which include Sodick AG40 spark eroder, Sodick AG600 wire eroder and various CNC and manual machines.
His extensive knowledge in tool design supports his ability to provide and discuss complex tooling solutions with our customers. Sam is responsible for analysing any technical issues and the ongoing training and support of the tool makers within his team.
Jonathan Fraser joined Miles Platts in 2015 as Quality Manager; with over 25 years of injection moulding, extrusion and blow moulding experience within the plastic industry he is responsible for leading and developing the product quality and quality management system accreditation to ISO 9001:2008.
Jonathan is a qualified quality and environmental auditor to IS0 9001 and ISO 14001 respectively, he works closely with the production departments to ensure the raw material process and finished products meet safety and customer requirements. Whilst representing the quality function in the development of new processes he is also responsible for championing the Company Quality Policy, ensuring it is implemented and understood by all staff whilst improving efficiencies through smarter working, cost and waste reduction.
Jackie joined Miles Platts in 2014 with almost 20 years of credit control and purchase ledger experience. She supports the Management Accountant in a busy finance department to ensure that all accounts transactions are processed in a timely manner. Jackie is the first point of call for our customers with regards to any finance queries and aims to provide exemplary levels of customer service.
