Injection Mould Tool Design Engineer

Miles Platts is a customer focussed, world-leading manufacturer of precision, technical injection mouldings, bobbins and coil-formers for the electrical, electronics & automotive industries, supplying ‘electro-technical’ components to production facilities all around the world.  We have an immediate requirement for the position of ‘Design Engineer’ at our manufacturing facilities in Blaby. 
Reporting to the Technical  Manager, the role is key for supporting the company's design department.
 
Key Function             
To design precision mould-tools, bolster systems and other equipment and fixtures as required.

Main Duties                  

• Responsible for the Design of high precision mould tools
• Responsible for the Design of other Miles Platts equipment, machine and fixtures and ensure this is done on time to both internal and customer expectations.
• Support and deputise for Technical Manager when required, including site visits when required.
• Maintain high levels of housekeeping including revision control and management of the electronic drawing system
• Ordering and management of externally purchased parts used in tool manufacture
• With the support and assistance of the Technical Manager ensure tools meet require performance requirements in all aspects before hand over to production
• Understand of the moulding process and the effects of Machine settings on products and when required mandate setters to use these parameters
• Understand engineering polymers and there application, optimum use and possible issues

Profile / Skills     
Proven experience as a Tooling Design Engineer, within Injection Moulding
Knowledge of Hot and Cold runner systems
Knowledge of both 2D & 3D CAD (ideally Creo and/or Visi)
Able to manage multiple designs, and organise daily work load against deadlines
Supporting qualifications would also be an advantage
Experience of continuous improvement, and 5S would be advantageous
Must be self-motivated, team player that is adaptable and organised and be able to use your own initiative.

Targets / KPI’s   
On time and on cost delivery of designs and equipment within agreed timescales ensuring tools are production ready in every respect.
Ensure chargeable hours are within agreed targets
Zero faults forward
